Welcome to the Week 1 recap of the NFL Pick’em Pool! It’s been a wild start to the season with some standout performances, close calls, and heartbreakers. Special shout out to New England for destroying a large chunk of the Loser Pool player’s hopes.

Let’s dive into the action, highlighting the highs and lows of this week’s competition.

Top Dogs: Greg and NickM

Let’s start at the top with Greg and NickM, who both crushed Week 1 with a stellar 15 correct picks. These two were neck-and-neck all week long, with only the Cincinnati game tripping them up—this matchup was the “Heartbreaker of the Week,” derailing 82 hopefuls who backed the Bengals.

Greg, showing some impressive foresight, predicted a combined Monday Night score of 42, closer to the actual 51 than NickM’s respectable guess of 35. Both of them nailed some key picks, including Buffalo, which emerged as the “Sure Shot of the Week,” with 83 participants getting this one right. Greg and NickM really set the tone for the season—everyone else will have to bring their A-game to keep up.

Close Behind: The 14-Point Club

Hot on their heels were the members of the 14-point club, including Jessb, Brendanc, Rene, and Davec to name a few. Each of them came painfully close to perfection but just missed two games. Brady, for instance, nailed the New England pick, while Brendanc’s faith in Atlanta didn’t pan out. They all managed to pick a solid spread of winning teams, but it’s clear that every decision counts in this competition!

Special mention to Carlos, who was leading early through Sunday, but got lost ground as the morning finished. Still, a solid performance from all!

Mid-Pack Warriors: Ups and Downs

The middle of the pack is where things get really interesting. Players like FrancineM and Ernie were among those with 13 correct, while Derikg and Joshh both finished with 12 correct picks. These “Mid-Pack Warriors” started strong but stumbled over a few tough matchups. Brady had a bold pick with New England over Cinncinnati, which paid off big, but unfortunately missed the boat by going with Las Vegas. SusanL played it safe with Miami and Buffalo, but not picking Detroit threw a wrench in her plans.

Slow Starters: Lessons Learned

At the other end of the table, some players had a rough go, managing just 7 or 8 correct picks. Steve started off rocky by going against both Kansas City and Philadelphia, while Jordand gambled on Tennesee pulling out a win over Chicago —bold, but it just didn’t pay off this time. They’ve got time to turn things around though—it’s only Week 1! Everyone knows the NFL season is a marathon, not a sprint.

Stay tuned for more twists, upsets, and big-time picks as we head deeper into the season!
